Yesterday, Ha Noi police arrested the fifth criminal in the baby-trafficking ring recently busted and rescued a 4-day-old baby meant for sale in China.

They arrested the 47-year-old woman named Duong who was ostensibly trading in bamboo shoots, corns and cassava in Vinh Tien Commune of Hoa Binh province in the north.

Police also rescued the baby whose mother said she was deceived by Duong who claimed she wanted to adopt the baby for herself.

Being an abandoned woman, the mother agreed and handed Duong the new-born after it was delivered.

But Duong allegedly transferred the poor child to Nguyen Thi Thinh, a 42-year-old baby trafficker, residing in Chuong My District of Ha Tay Province. Thinh was arrested on February 17 for selling new-borns to China.

Police had also apprehended three others: Tham Thi Hoa, 47, her husband Hoang Duc Hien, 58, and Trinh Thi Nga, for their involvement in the ring.
